About The Position

Receives and releases bodies of deceased patients. Transports bodies for storage and autopsies. Assists at autopsies and in taking specimen samples as directed by Pathologist. Cleans and maintains work areas and equipment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Minimum of one (1) year morgue experience, required.
Ability to operate equipment and work with various tools and instruments.

Responsibilities

Receives bodies of deceased patients and releases same to authorized personnel.
Enters receipt and release of bodies in log.
Transports bodies through the morgue for storage and autopsy purposes.
Assists at autopsies, as directed by Pathologist:
Ensures proper consent to perform autopsy has been obtained
Prepares body and instruments to be used
Performs required incisions
Eviscerates body and removes all organs, including brain, under direct supervision of Pathologist
Assists in taking samples for histological studies and gross evaluations.
Packs, sutures and washes body.
Maintains autopsy suite, surgical pathology cutting room, mortuary and instruments in neat and orderly condition.
Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
Maintains storage/supply areas.
Transfers materials, including hazardous chemical, as required.
Cleans histology equipment and glassware, cassette tops and molds.
Pours prepared solutions into various containers and changes daily.
Stores specimens in numerical order for further review. Discards old specimens, as required.
Retrieves slide and reports from files and sets up specimens for various conferences, research studies, etc.
Performs related duties, as required.
