About The Position

Western State Hospital is seeking a Moonlighting Psychiatrist/Physician (OD PRN) who will perform the required admission assessment of patients brought to the hospital and respond to the acute medical/psychiatric needs of all inpatients for the duration of the on-call period; collaborate with on-call admission coordinator regarding any afterhours referrals to determine appropriateness of admission and medical clearance; conduct Admission assessment, including: history, physical exam, mental status, suicide/risk assessment, preliminary treatment and management of medical and psychiatric problems; assess and manage acute psychiatric and medical issues which occur during the on-call shift on all patients in the hospital. WSH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In this role, the OD will work 12‑hour shifts (7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m.), which may include weekday nights, weekends, and holiday coverage. Hours may not exceed 1,500 per year, and the ideal candidate will be able to work at least two shifts per month. We will make every effort to schedule shifts based on your availability and preferences.

Requirements

  • Completion of approved Medical School
  • License to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Active DEA prior to approval of clinical privileges

  • Completion or active enrollment in an approved residency program in Psychiatry, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
  • Bilingual
  • Board Certified
  • Veteran or veteran spouse
