About The Position

The Director role for Sonnet Montessori ensures the delivery of a high-quality Montessori program, compliance with state licensing, and alignment with Sonnet’s philosophy and standards. The Director is responsible for fostering a safe, nurturing environment for children, building strong relationships with families, and supporting and developing a high-performing teaching team.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Business Administration, or related field preferred, not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership and/or program administrator experience in a licensed childcare or educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of child development and ability to guide teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Proven skills in staff supervision, conflict resolution, and parent communication.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire).
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, which may include; Standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Lifting and carrying young children and classroom materials – up to 65 lbs. Bending, stooping, and kneeling to interact with children at their level.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring physical intervention.
  • Familiarity with Montessori philosophy strongly preferred; openness to learn required.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Lead staff meetings, professional development, and team-building initiatives.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and professional workplace culture.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents.
  • Communicate regularly through meetings, newsletters, and school events.
  • Conduct tours and support enrollment efforts.
  • Partner with the community to promote the school’s mission and programs.
  • Monitor classroom environments to ensure Montessori philosophy and licensing standards are upheld.
  • Support teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Evaluate classroom curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Ensure smooth transitions for children and families.
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure health, safety, and licensing compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records, reporting, and documentation as required.
  • Implement and monitor emergency preparedness plans.
  • Ensure facilities, equipment, and materials are safe, organized, and well-maintained.
  • Manage budgets, expenses, payroll approvals, and supply ordering.
  • Partner with regional leadership on financial and staffing decisions.
  • Monitor enrollment and maintain accurate waitlists.
  • Support sustainable business practices for long-term school success.
