About The Position

At LMH Health, the Monitor Technician functions as a member of the patient care team, under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), and under the direction of the unit director. This role involves performing unit receptionist and clerical duties, including transcribing orders and ordering supplies. A key responsibility is to continuously monitor, interpret, and report cardiac rhythms and other hemodynamic perimeters to appropriate personnel. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current BLS certification
  • Successful completion of monitor tech training program within 6 months of employment

Responsibilities

  • Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.
  • Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge.
  • Performs configuration as necessary.
  • Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information.
  • Maintains telemetry system.
  • Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers.
  • Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
  • Greets customers courteously and conveys message to the appropriate person, while providing excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrates accountability for maintaining and advancing job performance skills.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members, serving as a resource.
  • Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and IT as appropriate.
  • Gives report to oncoming shift.
  • Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations.
  • Maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry, and transport monitors.
  • Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees and visitors.
  • Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
