About The Position

Perform molecular diagnostic laboratory testing in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs). Testing materials include animal specimens that may contain a variety of infectious diseases.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
• Knowledge and skills of molecular biology, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, gel electrophoresis and next-generation sequencing.
• Ability to work in a team setting and provide general assistance to other personnel.

Responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic and surveillance testing, including handling specimens, nucleic acid extraction, performing PCR, real-time PCR, digital PCR, gel electrophoresis, PCR product cleanup and next-generation sequencing. The testing process also includes data interpretation and reporting of test results.
• Assist in maintenance of lab equipment, supplies and inventory. Maintain necessary records and laboratory reports and other related duties assigned by the Faculty Supervisor and Laboratory Supervisor.
• Assist research projects including planning & conducting experiments, analyzing data and reporting results. Participate in required proficiency tests.
• Train & coach new employees and visiting students/scholars.
