Charleston, SC | Molecular Genetic Pathologist with Surgical Pathology Expertise Join a team that’s Changing What’s Possible – The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) nationally recognized Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks an academically-oriented, board-certified Molecular Genetic Pathologist . MUSC, Charleston Division, is the quaternary medical center for South Carolina and a comprehensive transplant center and includes the Hollings Cancer Center, Ashley River Tower hospital, Shawn Jenkins Children’s / Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion Hospital and the Main MUSC hospital. The Hollings Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated center in the state. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine’s Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Division has expertise in benign and malignant hematology / hematopathology, molecular genetic pathology (hematologic and solid malignancies), genetics / genomics, clinical chemistry, immunology and serology, bone marrow and solid organ transplant support services, transfusion medicine, cell therapy, molecular and diagnostic microbiology, medical ethics, pathology patient safety, and laboratory management. Additionally, the Surgical Pathology Division has subspecialty expertise in GI/Liver Pathology, Breast Pathology, GYN Pathology, GU Pathology, Bone/ Soft Tissue Pathology, Head and Neck/Endocrine Pathology, Pulmonary Pathology, Placental Pathology, and Renal Pathology. Our Department has approximately $5 million dollars in extramural funding annually and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding. We are seeking Academically - oriented candidate with 2-8 + years of post-fellowship experience is preferred; current fellow/recent graduates will be considered MUSC Department of Pathology an d Laboratory Medicine Collaborative team composed of 64 faculty representing five divisions including Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology/Laboratory Medicine, Forensic Pathology/Autopsy Services, Experimental Pathology, and Informatics H igh quality training program s with 2 2 residents and 10-12 fellows who have had a 100% board passage rate for the past 7 years CAP, AABB, ASHI, and FACT certifications and accreditations The Department offers a n ACGME-accredited molecular genetic pathology fellowship program as well as additional fellowship programs in surgical pathology ( 3 positions) and clinical chemistry , and ACGME-accredited fellowships in Cytopathology, Neuropathology, Hematopathology , Dermatopathology , and Forensic Pathology . Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree with pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • Board certification/eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina
  • Excellent communication skills, work ethic, and team player approach to patient care

Nice To Haves

  • Academically - oriented candidate with 2-8 + years of post-fellowship experience is preferred; current fellow/recent graduates will be considered
  • Additional subspecialt y expertise in Surgical Pathology is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in the use , interpretation, and integration of cytogenetic and molecular techniques in the clinical work-up of cases ; ability and willingness to learn additional techniques and interpretation as the field develops
  • Experience in fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers as well as serving as a resource to technologists at the bench
  • Participation in clinical and/or translational research endeavors
  • Ability to instruct medical students, participate in the training of pathology residents and fellows, and actively participate in the academic mission of the NCI-designed Hollings Cancer Center and the MUSC Genetics clinical division.
  • Willingness to play a key role in training of Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellow
  • Enthusiastic participation in the team-based, busy cytogenetics and genomics laboratory service, which includes sections for cytogenetics , FISH, SNP microarray, and NGS
