Molecular Diagnostics Intern
About The Position
In this role, the intern will learn microbial diagnostics and disinfectant efficacy testing within the health testing department; possibilities of lab techniques that will be used include aseptic technique, bacterial growth/plating, dilutions, microbial identification. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A basic background in microbiology is expected. In this role, the intern will gain hands-on experience in laboratory techniques and practices and will contribute to the development of new laboratory processes. Requirements
- Be a current student pursuing a degree in microbiology or a related field.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in an academic microbiology lab environment as well as an understanding of basic microbiology principles is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Gain hands-on experience with biological research techniques, training in current SOPs as well as contributing original data to new projects.
- Assist in preparation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Operate equipment for sample processing.
- Perform basic lab testing under supervision, including sample-receiving, logging, processing, testing, and reporting of results.
- Ensure lab environment is clean and well-maintained, following safety protocols.
- Working with supervisors and other lab staff to support goals of project and contribute to team discussions and problem-solving.
