All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance is provided for the internship program. The Opportunity Bio-Techne empowers researchers in Life Science and Clinical Diagnostics by providing high-quality reagents, instruments, custom manufacturing, and testing services. Our family of brands creates a unique portfolio of products and services. Asuragen specializes in launching innovative products as both diagnostic kits for international distribution and laboratory developed tests. Asuragen is seeking an outstanding undergraduate (at least 4 semesters completed), recent graduates, and/or graduate students (master's level) in the biological sciences for 2026 summer research internships focused on developing innovative nucleic acid technologies. The opportunity will involve projects relevant to Asuragen’s molecular diagnostics portfolio that currently influence over 15 million patient management decisions a year. Asuragen internships offer exposure to cutting-edge, applied scientific research, but they also provide unique experiences that come from working in a scientific business focused on product development and research capabilities. Projects will advance molecular assays that can help diagnose disease and/or inform patient treatments and focus on interrogating biomarkers with precision medicine applications. Each intern is assigned to a project and a scientific mentor; projects may fall within molecular signatures for inherited disease, sensitive variant detection for minimum residual disease, or novel method development. Each project is appropriately scoped to produce 2-4 defined outcomes based on level of expertise within the internship period. Technologies of interest will vary by project, but typically include DNA isolation, preparation, and method developing utilizing some combination of PCR enrichment, long-read Nanopore sequencing, reverse transcription, eukaryotic cell culture, capillary electrophoresis, quantitative or digital PCR. Projects may include working with automated liquid handler robotics, python scripting to automate experimental setup and data interpretation, or ancillary orthogonal method. Diagnostic disease applications span neurogenetics (such as myotonic dystrophy, fragile X and autism spectrum disorder), oncology (liquid and solid tumors), and inherited disease screening (genetic variants associated with cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, hemoglobinopathy, etc.). Internships span a minimum of 8-10 weeks spanning May-August. Expectations are 40 working hours/week. Options to start early or extend the internship beyond the summer period may be considered based on intern availability, project need, and other resource requirements. Internships include networking opportunities, social events, and workshops. Interns may shadow key functional roles across the company, contribute to conference abstract/poster preparation, and present internally during team meetings, journal clubs, and other opportunities.
