This role is a 12-hour rotating Day Shift JOB SUMMARY Jabil Gurnee is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Mold Repair Technician III to perform advanced maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on complex injection molds. This role is critical in ensuring the continuous operation and high-quality output of our molding processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical training or certification in mold making (Master Molder I and/or Master Molder II), tool and die, or related field is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years of hands-on experience in injection mold repair and maintenance, with a strong emphasis on complex and precision tooling.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting hot runner systems, hydraulic/pneumatic circuits within molds, and advanced mold designs.
  • High proficiency in operating manual machine shop equipment (milling machines, lathes, surface grinders) for mold component fabrication and repair.
  • Strong welding skills (TIG, laser welding preferred) for mold cavity and core repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D CAD models.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Or equivalent combination of education, certifications and experience

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform complex repairs on a wide variety of injection molds, including hot runner systems, multi-cavity tools, and intricate precision molds.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble mold components, identifying worn or damaged parts and recommending appropriate repair strategies.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.) to verify mold dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform welding, grinding, polishing, and machining operations (e.g., manual milling, lathe work) to restore or modify mold components to specifications.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks on molds according to established schedules and procedures to maximize lifespan and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality departments to identify root causes of mold-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of junior mold repair technicians, sharing expertise and best practices.
  • Document all mold repair and maintenance activities accurately and thoroughly in the designated maintenance management system.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to mold maintenance and repair processes.
