GE Vernova Modeling and Simulation Intern - Summer 2026

GE VernovaGreenville, NC
20h$25 - $27

About The Position

As an Modeling and Simulation intern, you will join a multidisciplinary team addressing the complex challenges of integrating AI data centers with power plants and electrical grids. You will develop models used to solve complex controls problems that are created by rapid changes in grid frequency. You will also have opportunities to develop new models that help to validate emission control issues that are also exacerbated by rapid load changes in gas turbine power plants. These models will be used to enhance operational resilience and stability across interconnected systems, using advanced machine learning and model-based engineering approaches.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational knowledge and Demonstrated interest on mathematical model of thermal, chemical and electrical systems.
  • Exposure to machine learning techniques applied to system modelling and control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data-driven modelling, simulation, or algorithm development as part of studies or projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and research-driven environments.
  • Exposure to programming languages such as C/C++, Python, R, or similar, for algorithm development, data analysis, and simulation.
  • Exposure to power plant control systems, grid modelling, and turbine control operational challenges.
  • Familiarity with AI data Center load profiles and their impact on electrical grid and power plant operations.
  • Working knowledge of model-based engineering and real-world power system simulation tools.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for cross-functional and academic collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team to develop simulations that support the validation of advanced controls and electrical system scenarios for variable grid strength adaptation.
  • Gain exposure to cutting-edge research in power system control, and modelling.
  • Build expertise in power generation operational challenges, advanced modeling, control techniques, and next-generation energy system integration.
  • Collaborate with GE Vernova’s Controls & Electrical Systems teams build models and simulation that will aid in the design and validation of control strategies for variable grid strength and dynamic load demands.
  • Perform estimation of system parameters using plant data, electrical models, physics-based simulations, and advanced control algorithms.
  • Analyse and address electrical and mechanical challenges arising from AI data center integration with power plants and grids.
  • Contribute to scenario development for adapting power generation controls to evolving grid conditions.

Benefits

  • Employee Assistance Program, providing 24/7 confidential assessment, counseling and referral services
  • GE Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) after their accumulated service reaches 90 days, and they meet any other eligibility requirements as defined in the plans.
  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.
  • Housing Allowance: Co-op/Interns employees receive a weekly housing allowance to help off-set living expenses when the co-op/Intern’s permanent residence is at least 50 miles away from the work location.
