Our Engineering Modeling & Simulation and Data Science group within our Corporate Technology organization is seeking a Graduate Intern to support advanced computational modeling initiatives and the development of robust data pipelines for engineering workflows. If you enjoy applying numerical methods, developing simulation tools, and enabling high‑quality data for engineering decision‑making, this role will provide meaningful, hands‑on experience. Working alongside a team of simulation engineers, data engineers, and domain specialists, you will contribute to the creation, validation, and automation of digital engineering capabilities used throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Masters-level graduate program in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Academic or project experience in one or more of the following: Numerical modeling or simulation (e.g., FEA, CFD, system modeling) Applied statistics or machine learning Data engineering or computational workflow development
  • Experience using Git or similar version-control systems for managing code, collaborating on shared repositories, and maintaining reproducible project workflows.
  • Familiarity with basic software development practices, including branching, pull requests, and code review processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Minimum 3.3 out of 4.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently and legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, J-1, F-1, CPT, OPT, etc.). Donaldson will not offer immigration sponsorship or assume sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with languages or tools such as Python, Java, SQL, or engineering simulation platforms like Ansys or COMSOL.
  • Familiarity with data engineering concepts (ETL pipelines, cloud data tools, data modeling).
  • Exposure to machine learning, statistical modeling, or scientific computing methods.
  • Previous research or industry experience in engineering modeling, simulation, or data‑centric project work.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently and propose solutions.
  • Effective communicator comfortable presenting to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong desire to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Support projects involving the development, validation, and refinement of engineering models, simulations, or analytical tools across multiple technology domains.
  • Develop scripts, workflows, or tools to automate simulation processes, improve reproducibility, and enhance modeling efficiency.
  • Design data pipelines that gather, organize, validate, and transform engineering data to support modeling activities and downstream analytics performed by business partners.
  • Review academic and industry literature to identify new modeling techniques, algorithms, or data engineering best practices applicable to ongoing research.
  • Apply sound statistical or computational methods to analyze simulation outputs, validate models, and interpret system behavior.
  • Prepare clear technical summaries and present results for technical and non-technical audiences.
