About The Position

Crown is seeking a skilled Model Maker & Prototyper to join our Design Team. This role offers hands-on involvement in a progressive, well-equipped model shop featuring in-house 3D printing, CNC machining, molding and casting, metalworking, and advanced fabrication. Projects range from early concept models to fully functional prototype vehicles supporting design and engineering development.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
Willingness to obtain lift truck certification
Ability to travel occasionally (0–5%) within the U.S. and Europe
Ability to meet standard physical requirements, including standing, sitting, and occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs)

Nice To Haves

Degree in Model Making, a technical field, or related discipline
Experience with sculpting, machining, mold making, casting, and metalworking
Proficiency in 3D CAD, CNC machining, and 3D printing
Background in prototyping or model making within automotive, aerospace, or consumer product industries
Experience collaborating with designers, engineers, and external vendors

Responsibilities

Build and fabricate high quality, detailed, unique and complex prototype models using plastics, wood, metals, Ren, and other materials
Develop creative 3D solutions using multiple CAD platforms
Program, operate, and maintain CNC machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, mills, saws, routers, and hand tools
Collaborate with designers to plan builds, brainstorm solutions, and review progress
Document build processes and design changes
Evaluate vendor capabilities and recommend outsourcing when needed
Explore new materials, processes, and equipment
Travel occasionally for project or professional development needs
Perform additional duties as assigned
