About The Position

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.. The Role GEOS Digital Transformation is seeking a systems‑driven and innovation‑oriented Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Lead to champion the design, development, adoption, integration, and evolution of model‑based engineering practices across the GM product development process. This role is responsible for defining MBSE strategy, establishing processes & methods to enable teams to design, analyze, and validate complex systems through digital models. This role will be focusing on both the processes and the selection and design of a modernized technology stack for implementation. The successful candidate will shape GM’s digital engineering ecosystem by driving alignment, accelerating model‑centric development, and ensuring MBSE becomes a foundational capability across programs and functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, digital engineering, or MBSE leadership roles.
  • Demonstrates a strong personal ability to lead cross‑functional engineering initiatives within complex, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Leverages strong communication, systems thinking, and stakeholder influence to build alignment and momentum.

Nice To Haves

  • 12+ years of experience in systems engineering, digital engineering, or MBSE leadership roles.
  • Deep expertise with MBSE and MDIO methodologies and tools (e.g., SysML, Cameo, Rhapsody, DOORS, JAMA, ModelCenter, Esteco, etc. and digital thread ecosystems).

Responsibilities

  • MBSE Strategy & Framework Development Define and evolve GM’s enterprise MBSE strategy, standards, and methodologies.
  • Establish modeling frameworks, toolchains, and best practices that support system architecture, automated trade study analysis, requirements, and verification workflows.
  • Ensure MBSE approaches align with enterprise engineering, digital transformation, and product development priorities.
  • Systems Architecture & Model Integration Lead the development of system models that capture architecture, interfaces, behaviors, and constraints across complex vehicle and digital systems integrating both hardware and software elements of product development.
  • Drive integration of MBSE models with downstream engineering tools, simulation environments, and digital thread ecosystems.
  • Ensure model fidelity, traceability, and alignment with program requirements and engineering processes.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Enablement Partner with engineering, product, software, quality, test, and manufacturing teams to embed MBSE practices into program lifecycles.
  • Facilitate alignment across technical domains, ensuring models reflect cross‑disciplinary perspectives and system‑level tradeoffs.
  • Provide coaching, training, and thought leadership to accelerate MBSE adoption across the enterprise.
  • Governance, Quality & Lifecycle Management Establish governance mechanisms for model creation, reuse, versioning, and validation in a product line engineering context.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise standards, regulatory requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Oversee lifecycle management of system models, ensuring they remain accurate, current, and actionable throughout development.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement Evaluate emerging MBSE tools, standards, and technologies to guide future capability development.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance engineering efficiency, reduce complexity, and improve decision‑making through model‑centric approaches.
  • Champion continuous improvement in digital engineering practices and the broader systems engineering ecosystem.
