About The Position

TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a Model Based Systems Engineering position supporting Research and Development in Code 32 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division. This position will work with acquisition program managers, engineers, technical specialists, and subject matter experts (SMEs), supporting multiple MBSE and M&S efforts at NSWCPD. The successful candidate will develop prototype digital models of software systems and mechanical and electrical systems, address design tradeoffs and integration challenges, and support validation and verification of requirements. Focus will be on enhanced model definition and alignment, improved communication and collaboration, leveraging lessons learned, and supporting an integrated workforce within the organization. This position will require experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods and understanding of cloud-based enterprise software architectures, and use of modeling software such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Cameo System Modeler.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 2 or more years of experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
  • OCSMP level 2 or higher highly desired
  • 4+ years’ experience in systems engineering, with a focus on MBSE and simulation
  • Demonstrated experience in developing system models for complex electrical, mechanical, and control systems
  • Proficient in software development and software analysis using MATLAB/Simulink, CAMEO, SysML or similar tools.
  • Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance. Due to the nature of our work with the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. citizenship is required. Some positions may require the renunciation of any non-U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing system models for complex electrical, mechanical, and control systems
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or similar for model development and tool integration
  • Familiarity with ship systems, Integrated Power Systems (IPS), and HM&E systems is preferred
  • Experience with frameworks, schemas, and data dictionaries relevant to shipboard systems engineering
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform tradespace analyses and risk assessments
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience briefing technical results to stakeholders and working groups
  • Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customers
  • Ability to communicate complex analysis with clarity and precision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • OCSMP level 2 or higher
  • Knowledge of Agile Project Management (SaFE Certification preferred)
  • Proficiency in MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Familiarity with Navy programs and technical documentation (e.g., DDG1000 CDRLs, IPS D&T Plan)
  • Engineering & design experience with data for industrial or maritime power systems.

Responsibilities

  • Model Development and Analysis:
  • Develop real-time and non-real-time system models for Integrated Power Systems (IPS) design analyses.
  • Support the integration of component models (e.g., power components, supervisory control, HM&E systems) into IPS system models.
  • Perform IPS design analyses and generate detailed reports summarizing findings.
  • Requirements Modeling:
  • Support the development of requirements models, logical and physical models, verification and validation (V&V) models, and parametric models using tools like Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • Ensure models accurately reflect system designs and incorporate updates as needed.
  • System Simulation and Tradespace Analysis:
  • Develop tools for tradespace evaluation, including utility functions, and perform analyses to support design decisions.
  • Create system model components to capture engineering studies of complex HM&E systems.
  • Frameworks and Ontologies:
  • Research and apply relevant frameworks, schemas, and data dictionaries to capture essential dynamics of ship systems.
  • Contribute to the development of shipboard HM&E ontologies and schemas.
  • Coding and Tool Development:
  • Develop or modify computer code in languages such as Java, Python, or similar to support modeling and simulation needs.
  • Create tools to interface with product lifecycle models and support critical milestones.
  • Collaboration with Design Teams:
  • Collaborate with design teams to finalize IPS design analyses and study guides.
  • Brief analysis results to design working groups and stakeholders, including SEA05Z technical discussions.
  • Risk Management Support:
  • Support risk reduction efforts by preparing briefs for stakeholders and participating in Risk Management Board (RMB) meetings.
  • Develop schedules for design analyses and integrate them within the IPS M&S schedule.
  • Workforce Development:
  • Provide technical training and guidance on electric machine fundamentals, power electronics, and IPS design and testing plans.
  • Review DDG1000 CDRLs and other technical documentation to support workforce development.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
  • Present design analysis status at Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Working Group meetings.
  • Support technical discussions and respond to requests from stakeholders such as PMS460, TWH, IPS PAPM, SSDM, and TD.
  • Data Deliverables:
  • Prepare and submit technical reports, contract status reports, travel reports, and personnel rosters in accordance with CDRL requirements.
  • Schedule Development:
  • Develop and maintain schedules for system model creation and analysis reports, ensuring alignment with program milestones.
  • Travel and On-Site Support:
  • Participate in CONUS travel to support program needs, including briefings and technical discussions.
