About The Position

This position will reside in the divisional headquarters building, which houses engineering for multiple product lines as well as marketing, sales, finance, and R&D. The facility was built in 2012 and boasts an open office layout surrounded by large windows, as well as 50,000+ square feet of onsite state-of-the-art laboratory space, a basketball court, ping-pong, employee lounge, and grill & patio. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of motor control for the division's next generation of industry leading products. Primary products are related to variable frequency drives but may also include reduced voltage starting; these products leverage embedded micro-controllers and digital signal processors. The candidate will work with other team members driving new product and process development while leveraging state of the art tools. Responsibilities will center on motor control algorithm development, modeling for variable frequency drives, but will also require the ability to implement the control in DSP/embedded firmware. The candidate must possess a mind-set focused on innovation combined with motor control experience and the ability to drive all motor control related aspects of a project to a successful completion. Develop models, control algorithms and diagnostics for power converters and electric machines utilizing model-based design (MBD) tools (MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow, etc.), per balanced requirements to meet schedule, technical, and cost constraints Specify, design, and implement functionality and behaviors of embedded subsystems to deliver high-quality C code for controls software and algorithm development Hands-on hardware setup, system debugging, code and performance optimization, create and execute board level test plans to expose weakness or faults in firmware Develop automated Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) and Software-In-Loop (SIL) validation platform and infrastructure to improve the level of automation, efficiency and accuracy in motor controls Implement continuous improvements and best practices within the team, and larger organization Support the development of Standard Work for the use of the above model-based algorithm development tools and processes Ensure optimal implementation with an embedded coder and compliance to safety requirements, regulatory requirements, local building codes, and internal company policy

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution and minimum of 3 years of experience developing motor control models/algorithms OR Master's/PhD degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering (with an emphasis on Motor Control or equivalent) to be completed no later than June 2026.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of the specified job location(s) will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • Knowledge and experience related to the agile development process
  • Knowledge/training related to the fundamentals of digital signal processing
  • Experience developing motor control algorithms (volts-per-hertz and sensor-less vector) on a variety of single chip processor platforms including TI DSP's or ARM core microcontrollers
  • Experience and knowledge of embedded real time systems
  • Experience developing and implementing electric machine controls for Induction, Interior Permanent Magnet, Surface Permanent Magnet, synchronous reluctance electric machines
  • Experience with real-time hardware systems such as dSPACE, Opal-RT, Speedgoat, NI, etc.
  • Experience in Agile with respective tools such as JIRA, Confluence
