About The Position

The RideWise Travel Training Program is a powerful expression of Ride Connection’s belief that everyone deserves the freedom to move through their community with confidence and dignity. Through personalized, person-centered training, the program supports older adults, people with disabilities, and community members who face language barriers across the Portland Metro region, helping them gain skills and independence needed to safely use public transportation. The RideWise Manager plays a key leadership role in bringing this mission to life. This position guides the vision and growth of the program while also providing day-to-day support to a passionate team of travel trainers and specialists. The RideWise Manager ensures the program remains responsive to community needs, grounded in equity, and focused on empowering the people we serve. Strong relationships are at the heart of this work. The RideWise Manager actively builds and sustains partnerships with community organizations and service providers, helping expand access to the program and strengthen its reach. A visible presence in the community and a commitment to collaboration are essential to the program’s continued success and impact. This is a role for someone who believes transportation is more than a service, it’s a pathway to independence, opportunity, and connection.

Requirements

  • Compassionate, patient, and respectful in working with diverse populations
  • Independent, creative, and solution-oriented
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three years of relevant experience (education and experience may be substituted based on work history)
  • Leadership experience, preferably in a social services environment
  • Exceptional listening, interviewing, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with older adults and people with disabilities
  • Strong training, coaching, facilitation, and public speaking skills
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license with acceptable driving record in a five-year lookback
  • Ability to pass a national criminal background check including fingerprinting

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Portland metropolitan area transit system
  • Education in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Counseling, or related fields
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills (especially Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, or Vietnamese)
  • Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of the RideWise and Mobility for Health programs
  • Collaborate closely with operations and planning teams to ensure services are efficient, equitable, and responsive to community needs
  • Oversee intake, assessment, and service delivery to ensure customers receive the right level of support
  • Recruit, train, and support Travel Trainers, Travel Instructors, Travel Options Counselors, and a Mobility Specialists
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations and service providers
  • Monitor program effectiveness and complete required reports
  • Represent Ride Connection at community meetings and events
  • Provide excellent, compassionate customer service to every person we serve
  • Promote inclusive practices and support historically underserved and marginalized communities
