About The Position

The Mobile Operations In-Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of mobile service work. This role acts as the leadership layer between the Director of Mobile Operations and Crew Leads, supporting field teams, coordinating resources, and driving operational performance across all mobile crews.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in field operations, mobile services, or industrial/technical operations.
  • Proven leadership experience managing field teams or supervisors.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple crews, tasks, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
  • Comfortable working in industrial environments and outdoors.
  • Must meet company safety and fitness-for-duty requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in railcar services, industrial maintenance, or similar technical industries.
  • Knowledge of NDT, safety certifications, or related operational standards.
  • Proficiency with digital reporting tools, scheduling platforms, or operational management software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to Crew Leads and their technicians.
  • Ensure consistent communication of operational expectations, safety requirements, and project priorities.
  • Support staffing needs, including workforce planning, scheduling, and onboarding new field employees.
  • Oversee day-to-day mobile operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance with company standards.
  • Coordinate job assignments, crew routing, and resource allocation to optimize productivity.
  • Monitor field progress, resolve operational issues, and escalate obstacles when needed.
  • Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and communication of all completed work.
  • Enforce company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct periodic field audits to ensure work quality and adherence to operational standards.
  • Address performance concerns or incidents promptly and professionally.
  • Act as an operational point of contact for customer scheduling, job status updates, and on-site coordination.
  • Communicate clearly with customers when crews are dispatched, delayed, or require additional resources.
  • Support the Director of Mobile Operations in maintaining positive customer relationships through reliable communication and professional field execution.
  • Ensure all field reports, completion documentation, and job updates are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Provide support for new project start-ups, including coordinating resources, aligning crews, and ensuring all operational requirements are in place prior to launch.
  • Work closely with the Director of Mobile Operations to evaluate project needs, staffing, equipment requirements, and scheduling during early phases.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements to workflows, training, or resource planning.
  • Monitor new projects during initial execution to ensure crews follow procedures, meet customer expectations, and address issues promptly.
  • Assist in developing and implementing improved processes, standard operating procedures, and best practices across mobile teams.
  • Gather feedback from Crew Leads and technicians to drive continuous improvement in productivity, safety, and quality.
  • Support cross-department collaboration to refine operational processes, documentation, and communication standards.
