About The Position

The TRIO SSS Advisor provides professional level academic, admissions, career, financial aid, and transfer advising services for TRIO/Student Support Services participants at Inver Hills Community College. The SSS Advisor works with the SSS Program Director to meet the goals and objectives of the Department of Education funded grant by retaining, graduating, and transferring students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Background in serving populations such as first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.
  • Experience in student advising, assessing student needs and coordinating services
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with individuals.
  • Comprehensive computer and related technology skills, including web-based resources

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of experience advising students with issues similar to those faced by SSS participants
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, Education or related field
  • Knowledge of TRIO and/or federal grant programs
  • Experience managing a caseload and case files
  • Familiarity with student development theory, student success and engagement research and related materials
  • Knowledge of FERPA, MN Data Practices, and Higher Education policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, career, and transfer advising to support retention and improve academic performance of Student Support Services (SSS) program participants.
  • Develop, implement, and document student support activities that fulfill the mission and objectives of the TRIO SSS grant.
  • Provide financial aid advising to ensure accurate and compliant administration of federal, state, and institutional aid programs, including grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of program participants' performance and participation for program evaluation and reporting per federal TRIO/SSS grant requirements and ensuring program meets US Department of Education regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
