Overview The Official Scorer ensures the accuracy and integrity of Major League Baseball (MLB) game records by making and announcing all scoring decisions in accordance with Rule 9 of the Official Baseball Rules (OBR). This role involves detailed tracking of every play, clear communication with media and club personnel, and timely submission of official reports to MLB's statistician. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fair play and accurate historical records, requiring impartial judgment, and adherence to MLB standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Collect rosters and other applicable information, test press box microphone, and be set up before first pitch Keep a detailed scorecard of the game, focusing on every pitch and play Make announcements as expected of the Official Scorer (i.e. time of first pitch, fielding credits, winning, and losing pitchers, etc.) Coordinate with the MLB Stringer, alerting them of all in-game judgment calls before announcing as well as coordinating approval of the official post-game report prior to its transmission to the Official MLB statistician Communicate with MLB Official Scoring in-game support when necessary via Slack Ensure all scoring decisions comply with MLB Official Baseball Rules and uphold the integrity of the game Provide a post-game recap detailing s coring decisions and other application of Rule 9 of the MLB rulebook Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
