About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. The MK2 Crew Lunar Lander team is seeking a Level 3 Systems Engineer to drive end-to-end systems engineering across a human-rated spacecraft. This role partners closely with subsystem engineering, avionics/software, GNC, structures, propulsion, power/thermal, mission operations, safety & mission assurance, and test organizations to define requirements, manage interfaces, execute trade studies, and lead verification and validation planning from development through integrated test and flight readiness.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of systems engineering experience on complex aerospace systems (spacecraft, launch vehicle, aircraft, or similarly complex products).
  • Demonstrated experience with requirements management, decomposition, traceability, and verification planning.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical efforts (e.g., interface management, integration readiness, trade studies).
  • Working knowledge of spacecraft development lifecycle and design review processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment and to manage competing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Spacecraft experience with one or more: avionics, GNC, propulsion, ECLSS/crew systems, power, thermal, comm, structures, mechanisms.
  • Experience supporting integrated vehicle test, environmental test campaigns, and flight/mission readiness activities.
  • Familiarity with human spaceflight considerations, fault tolerance, and safety engineering practices.
  • Experience with Workflow related tools (e,g,, Jira) and requirements tools (e.g., Jama).
  • Experience with configuration management and interface control processes on large programs.

Responsibilities

  • Own and mature system-level and allocated requirements, including rationale, assumptions, margins, and traceability to mission needs and standards.
  • Lead technical trades (performance, mass, power, reliability, maintainability, operability) and document decisions.
  • Develop and maintain system architectures (functional, physical, operational) and participate in design reviews (SRR/PDR/CDR and follow-on boards).
  • Manage interface definition and control (ICDs), coordinate cross-functional interface working groups, and ensure configuration control.
  • Plan and execute verification & validation (V&V) strategy: verification methods, success criteria, test matrix, and requirements closure.
  • Support system integration, test, and launch/site operations, including procedures, test readiness reviews, anomaly resolution, and corrective action.
  • Partner with Safety & Mission Assurance to support hazard analyses, fault management concepts, redundancy strategies, and human-rated design considerations.
  • Contribute to mission concepts of operations (CONOPS) and operational requirements (crew, ground, autonomy, comm, timelines).
  • Coordinate analyses (e.g., mass properties, power/thermal budgets, reliability allocations) and ensure consistent program-level margins and reporting.
  • Communicate clearly through concise technical writing, briefings, and stakeholder alignment.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
