About The Position

To perform a variety of professional and supervisory duties as needed to manage misdemeanor high risk domestic violence population probation cases. Works in conjunction with the current domestic violence probation officer and under the supervision of the Bannock County Court Services Director; however, considerable latitude is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Duties performed may include: home & employment checks, electronic monitoring, participation in high risk team meeting/staffing & sentencing, meet with clients and provide instruction for various life skills, is knowledgeable with regulations and practices; administer LSI assessment to determine contact/supervision status (i.e. Low, Med, or High supervision) and strengthening probation program; review terms and conditions with clients and completing documentation, assures compliance of provisions ordered. Maintains records of all contacts with defendants; prepares monthly or other periodic statistical reports and tracks stats for grant. Establishes and maintains contact with key individuals involved in the cases and case compliance, i.e. detectives, narcotic investigators, attorneys, judges, parents, spouses, service providers, supervisors, other County and state agencies, the public, co-workers, counselors, treatment provider, etc. Coordinates with various agencies and apprises of client contact obligations; provides agencies with copies of documentation, orders and related materials; performs follow up as needed to assure client contact compliance; set up and verifies community service obligations, issues affidavits as requested by judges for clients who violate probation terms and conditions. Performs a variety of field projects to determine client compliance with probation terms and conditions; GPS ankle monitoring; home searches (accompanies deputy sheriff or police officer), performs and reviews drug and BAC tests. Attends "review" hearings; may be required to attend court and offer testimony in relation to specific cases regarding probation violations; assist in preparing monthly reports showing case activity, etc. Position may not include all duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties to be performed. To perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in social work, law enforcement, criminology and/or
  • Two years of experience performing above or court-related duties; and/or domestic violence experience and/or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some knowledge of complex and technical filing systems relating to the county probation case management; procedures related to a variety of court processes; laws governing probation compliance and sanctions; basic bookkeeping, basic mathematics, interpersonal communications and public relations; related legal terms and definitions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • operate a variety of types of office machines; personal computer or terminal operation
  • develop effective working relationships with elected officials, judges, legal professionals, peer, and the public.
  • Must possess a valid Idaho driver's license
  • Must be able to qualify for security clearance which includes criminal and financial background check.
  • Must obtain or be POST certified as a misdemeanor probation officer with in one year of hire date.
  • May have no prior felony convictions and must submit to an extensive criminal history background check to be eligible to attend POST Academy training.
