About The Position

The Mining Estimator is responsible for the delivery of accurate and innovative estimating and costing services for the tendering of new mining projects, assets services, and reclamation proposals. They will also apply these processes to current projects to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the Thiess North America business.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in a mining engineering environment, with onsite experience in open cut or underground operations
  • At least 2 years of experience preparing bids in Civil, Heavy Civil, and/or the Mining industries
  • Understanding of mining principles, design concepts and operations
  • Understanding of usage and limitations of relevant mine planning, design and scheduling software
  • Proficiency in the application of computer-based estimating systems
  • Strong commercial acumen with prior experience in mining services contracts or long-term project planning roles
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to Thiess’ values of safety, discovery, accountability, respect, and empowerment
  • An ability to link the technical outcomes to financial results
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Authorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess
  • Must be fluent in the English language
  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Land Surveying required

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Business Development, Services Managers and Bid Specialist to ensure the estimating strategy aligns with our clients’ requirements
  • Work alongside Mine Planning Engineers to ensure the mine plan is optimized for the recommended installed capacity
  • Work alongside Asset Estimators to value and optimize fleet selection requirements and cost inputs
  • Analyze actual direct and overhead costs for use in tendering pricing
  • Analyze and apply market benchmarks to guide tender pricing
  • Analyze site production performance to determine parameters for use within budgets and tenders, and to support site in improving financial and operational performance
  • Develop accurate tenders that are practically oriented with due consideration to the scope of works
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
