Asphalt Milling Crew Operator (Travel)
About The Position
SCA is seeking a safety-conscious and dependable Milling Crew Laborer / Equipment Operator to support asphalt milling and site preparation operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring worksite efficiency and safety during milling and paving projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with milling equipment and cleanup machinery and be committed to maintaining equipment, supporting the crew, and contributing to high-quality results on every job site. This is a physically demanding, outdoor position that requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a collaborative crew.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in asphalt or milling operations preferred
- Willingness to travel for work throughout Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee
- Dependable with a strong work ethic and punctual attendance
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold
- Available for flexible work schedules including days, nights, weekends, and overtime
- Must pass a DOT physical (provided by the company)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience with highway construction or equipment hauling is a plus
- Familiarity with paving processes and worksite setup
- CDL-A license preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Perform general labor duties around the milling machine and worksite
- Operate cleanup equipment such as brooms, skid steers, and bump mills to prepare milled surfaces
- Operate milling-related and heavy equipment safely and efficiently under various site conditions
- Conduct daily equipment inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs (e.g., greasing, blade/bucket changes, hydraulic lines)
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment both inside and out
- Ensure safety for all personnel by operating equipment responsibly and following site safety protocols
- Collaborate with crew members to coordinate work and meet production goals
- Assist with job site preparation for paving operations
- Deliver excellent customer service and uphold SCA’s standards of performance and professionalism
