About The Position

The Mill Lead shall lead and operate in the functions of monitor machine cycles and mill operation to detect jamming and to ensure that products conform to specifications material in accordance with plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • 3 years of experience in a Mill within OCTG pipe manufacturing industry.
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools and hand held technical devices.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing Mill processes, procedures, and welding operation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time.
  • Understands all applicable location safety rules and regulations and makes sure that all are being followed.
  • The ability to lift 25/50 pounds regularly.
  • The ability to respond quickly to sounds.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds.
  • The ability to work in loud, hot environments/extreme weather while wearing required PPE.
  • Ability to see 20-20 when corrected.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

Responsibilities

  • Examine, inspect, and measure raw materials and finished products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Adjust and correct machine set-ups to reduce thicknesses, reshape products, and eliminate product defects.
  • Direct and train other workers to change rolls, operate mill equipment, and remove coils.
  • Manipulate controls and observe dial indicators in order to monitor, adjust, and regulate speeds of machine mechanisms.
  • Mill schedules to determine setup specifications, work sequences, product dimensions, and installation procedures.
  • Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed to be processed.
  • Set distance points between rolls, guides, meters, and stops, according to specifications.
  • Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Install equipment such as guides, guards, gears, cooling equipment, and rolls, using hand tools.
  • Position, align, and secure arbors, spindles, coils, mandrels, dies, and slitting knives.
  • Record mill production on schedule sheets.
  • Start operation of rolling and milling machines to flatten, temper, form, and reduce sheet metal sections and to produce steel strips.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Refer to Forming Mill Area SOP.
  • Other duties as assigned.
