About The Position

The Facilities Division is hiring for a Military Firefighter Assistant Fire Chief that under general supervision of the Fire Chief, is responsible for the supervision of a shift of fire fighters in a variety of administrative and operational duties while in station or at the scene of a fire, aircraft crash or other emergency.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have four years of experience in fire fighting operations.
  • Two years of this experience must have been in a supervisory position.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification.
  • Must have a valid Military driver's license.
  • Department of Defense Fire Fighter II certification.
  • Department of Defense Airport Fire Fighter certification.
  • Department of Defense Driver/Operator (Pumper) certification.
  • Department of Defense Driver/Operator (ARFF) certification.
  • Department of Defense Hazardous Materials Incident Command certification.
  • Department of Defense Fire Officer III certification.
  • Department of Defense Fire Instructor II certification.
  • Department of Defense Fire Inspector I certification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to structural alarms, acts/threats of terrorism, natural disasters, and contingencies to perform incident command/supervise fire fighting rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, disaster relief and confined space operations.
  • Responds to aircraft emergencies on site.
  • Responds to medical emergencies to supervise or provide a first responder level of care.
  • Supervises and performs fire fighting, rescue hazardous materials control and disaster relief responsive to request pursuant to authorized mutual-aid agreements.
  • Participants in training exercises and assessment with mutual-aid agreement partner organizations.
  • Performs administrative supervisory duties including personnel scheduling, counseling, performs evaluations, time keeping, and report submission.
  • Supervises station duties including maintenance of personal protective equipment, inspection, and maintenance of fire department vehicles, equipment, maintenance of fire station facilities, furnishings, alarm room operations, and other fire protection duties.
  • Respond to offsite emergencies in compliance with mutual aid agreement, train with other outside firefighting and rescue teams.
  • Conducts fire fighter training and assessment program, and maintains Department of Defense Certification.
  • Supervise inspection and testing of fire protection systems, hydrants, and extinguishers.
  • Performs facility fire safety inspections, pre-fire planning, and fire safety education.
