About The Position

Walker Residential is currently looking for a Milieu Specialist on a full time basis for their Needham campus. Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Milieu Specialist will act as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team for children with emotional and behavioral challenges. S/he will focus on social, recreational, and behavioral needs of children and ensure that the physical and emotional needs of children are being met on a daily basis. Successful candidates must be committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and strength based treatment; be a team leader and communicate effectively with teammates. Must have valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to transport children into the community.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to obtain MAP certification within first three (3) months of employment
  • Six (6) months prior experience working with children who have emotional and behavioral challenges
  • Must have valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to transport children into the community.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning and implementation of social and recreational activities for children; including summer and vacation programming.
  • Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
  • Communicate outcomes of appointments and manage follow up needed in regards to children’s care.
  • Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker.
  • Provide a therapeutic milieu environment for children, maintaining a safe and healthy environment; and meeting the physical needs of children.
  • Ensure units meet physical standards of licensing at all times.
  • Implement treatment protocol established in children’s treatment plans and individual support plans.
  • Properly attend to administrative functions of a childcare worker including attending required meetings; completing written reports; writing tasks and presenting at treatment updates.
  • Provide supervision of children.
  • Apply Walker’s model of childcare, including therapeutic crisis intervention methods, and physical restraint.
  • Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
