About The Position

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Milieu Specialist. Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Nursing (DON), the Milieu Specialist is responsible for managing the milieu staff and promoting a positive work environment. The Milieu Specialist also takes responsibility for training and supporting unit staff to ensure the treatment spaces are safe, secure, and therapeutic

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years of applicable experience or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of applicable experience.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly through spoken words and in writing.
  • Valid CRR Certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or an approved medical or religious exemption

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the patient intake process as needed to reduce the level of anxiety the patient may experience as they are being admitted to the unit.
  • Model professional behavior and standards of care to staff as a teacher, trainer and a direct care provider of patient care.
  • Will provide ongoing feedback and coaching to individuals and individual shifts when observing and supporting
  • Assure the maintenance of the physical environment throughout the unit to ensure infection control standards are being met.
  • Assist with patient groups and activities as needed and required.
  • Assists with the training and orientation of new unit staff to build rapport and assess engagement.
  • Document and communicate unusual or erratic changes in patients' behaviors and/or condition.
  • Regularly conducts “code drills” to ensure staff competence and submits summary report to the DON.
