About The Position

This role inspires and engages middle school students through dynamic, hands-on visual arts experiences, with a focus on three-dimensional media. Instruction emphasizes skill development, creativity, and self-expression through ceramics and other 3-D art forms, including sculpture, printmaking, textile arts, and fashion. In addition to teaching, this role serves as a middle school advisor, supporting students’ academic and social development. The ideal candidate brings experience working across multiple media and a passion for fostering a collaborative and exploratory studio environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred and prior teaching experience
  • Experience teaching and working with students to develop visual art skills in three-dimensional media
  • Demonstrated experience with 2-D and 3-D art forms and ability to instruct a wide-variety of visual arts coursework as needed.
  • Ability to design and teach engaging, age-appropriate art curriculum for middle school students
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students across a range of grade levels, skill levels, abilities, interests, and backgrounds
  • Commitment to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural competency
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across disciplines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to partner with parents and caregivers

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: work on-site in a school environment; be able to move around a classroom and outdoor space easily, for supervising and working with students; work individually and in a team environment to support the strategic priorities of the school, and be able to contribute in an organized and productive manner as a team member of grade-level, division, and all-school groups; and lift up to 25 pounds of supply boxes or other materials.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an innovative curriculum and apply a variety of instructional practices that relate to the unique needs of this age group
  • Teach relevant skills, techniques, and practices in visual arts to students in grades 6 through 12
  • Teach a range of techniques and practices in 2-D and 3-D art forms, possibly including painting, printmaking, textile arts, and drawing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized classroom and studio space; establish clear expectations for student responsibility, safety, and proper use of tools and materials
  • Assess, evaluate, and communicate student progress effectively with students and families
  • Serve as a middle school advisor, supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development
  • Collaborate with arts faculty and colleagues across disciplines to support interdisciplinary learning and community engagement
  • Create and sustain a positive, inclusive, and engaging studio environment that supports diverse learners
  • Communicate proactively and effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Utilize technology to support instruction and communication, including platforms such as Veracross, Canvas, and Google applications
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion through curriculum design, classroom practice, and ongoing professional growth
  • Participate actively in school life, including meetings, events, and other duties as assigned
