About The Position

Friends’ Central School is seeking an enthusiastic Middle School Math Teacher to join our faculty for a long term leave coverage. This role will begin in mid-January and end on June 12, 2026. The successful candidate will work with a group of 7th and 8th grade students through the conclusion of the academic year. FCS is looking for a dynamic educator who combines deep mathematical expertise with a heart for the developmental needs of 11-to-14-year-olds.

  • Degree in mathematics or a related field
  • Ability to relate well to Middle School students

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of Middle School math. Content areas include 7th Grade Advanced Algebra I & 8th Grade Advanced Geometry.
  • Create engaging and interactive lessons that help students understand and apply algebraic concepts, while also reinforcing basic math skills.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment characterized by inquiry, exploration, and student engagement.
  • Maintain a dynamic and focused learning environment by employing classroom management techniques tailored to the social and emotional needs of 11-to-14-year-olds.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse math learners.
  • Make math relevant, challenging, and fun by incorporating real-world applications and problem-solving activities.
  • Lead students to develop critical thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Assess students’ progress and performance in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate with teachers, advisors and parents/caregivers regarding students’ needs and progress.
  • Write mid semester and end term report card comments for individual students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the department and on the grade-level team.
  • Chaperone field trips and other student activities that contribute to the life of the school.
