About The Position

The Middle School French and Spanish Faculty member reports to the Middle School Director and works clos ely with students and families , as well as Middle School Faculty and Staff , while also being an active member of the school’s World Language Department . This position will be responsible for teaching world language class es (to include both French and Spanish classes ) throughout the school year , in addition to the possibility of hosting a student advisory group for the Academic Year . While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:

Requirements

  • Experience in teaching Middle School French and Spanish – a minimum of 3 years is preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree in French, Spanish, Education or related field is
  • Possess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school’s mission and values
  • Exhibit the c apacity and desire to engage in experiential activities and programs with students
  • Possess training and previous experience implementing Comprehensible Input strategies
  • Possess training and fluency in evaluating student skills using ACTFL ’s Proficiency Guidelines
  • Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with others, including administrators, colleagues, staff and parents/guardians to maintain constructive and professional relationships
  • Complete work in a timely and thorough manner and be conscientious about assignments and deadlines
  • Have proficient skills in the use of technology: including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite , Google Drive and Google Classroom , and Outlook
  • Maintain a strong work ethic, with high standards of professionalism, organization, accountability, and confidentiality
  • Maintain a willingness to assume additional responsibilities, as
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and sound judgment in decision-making
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
  • Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, manage long days, handle standard office and classroom materials, and support body with core muscles
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items 10-25 pounds
  • Ability to use hands to handle small objects, and to manage writing

Nice To Haves

  • A graduate degree in French, Spanish, Education or a related field is preferred
  • Preferred but not familiarity using Canvas or LMS.

Responsibilities

  • Possess the ability and skills to successfully teach both French and Spanish
  • Plan, prepare , and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences in both in -person and virtual classrooms
  • Create an immersion setting in class using comprehensible input to build students’ oral and written proficiency
  • Develop and implement a proficiency-oriented interdisciplinary, multicultural, experiential curriculum
  • Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development using ACTFL’s Proficiency Guidelines and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth
  • Serve as advisor to the middle school students
  • Value and incorporate diverse perspectives in daily interactions and within the curriculum
  • Establish classroom expectations that create a safe and comfortable environment for all students
  • Collaborate and work effectively with the school’s World Language Department
  • Create and sustain effective family partnerships, for example: communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom news via formal conferences, written reports , and school portal
  • Attend school related events outside the scheduled school day
  • Participate actively in school/division/department meetings, in addition to school activities/committees
  • Lead E- lectives throughout the academic year
  • Design and lead an E Week program each academic year
  • Be familiar with all the roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook
  • Attend all grade-level meetings
  • Attend all Middle School, Department, and All-Staff faculty meetings
  • Attend all beginning of the year and end-of-year faculty meetings
  • Conscientiously complete other duties as assigned
