Requirements

  • Experience teaching English Language Arts in grades 6, 7 and/or 8
  • Demonstrated strength in differentiated instruction and meeting diverse learning needs
  • Familiarity with state ELA standards and adolescent literacy development
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfort working in a school that values both structure and teacher autonomy
  • Enthusiasm for working with colleagues across grade levels and disciplines
  • Willingness to contribute to the broader life of the school, including student support, community events, and shared initiatives
  • Commitment to building strong, respectful relationships with students and families
  • We are looking for someone who is creative, collaborative, and reflective and growth-oriented about their teaching practice.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction aligned with Massachusetts ELA Curriculum Frameworks (or comparable standards), including:
  • Close reading and analysis of literary and informational texts
  • Evidence-based analytical, narrative, and expository writing
  • Vocabulary development and command of language conventions
  • Speaking and listening skills through discussion, presentation, and collaboration
  • Research skills and ethical use of sources
  • Exercise professional creativity and judgment in text selection, unit design, and instructional approach, within the scope of departmental goals and school values
  • Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners, using flexible grouping, scaffolds, and extension opportunities
  • Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and provide clear, supportive feedback
  • Cultivate a classroom culture that encourages voice, inquiry, respectful disagreement, and intellectual courage
