About The Position

Holy Cross Academy is seeking a dynamic and mission‑driven Full‑Time Middle School English/Social Studies Teacher to join our faculty. This role is responsible for delivering engaging instruction in literature, writing, grammar, history, geography, and civics while fostering a classroom environment rooted in respect, inquiry, and Catholic values. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong content knowledge, effective classroom‑management skills, and a commitment to supporting the academic, social, and spiritual growth of middle school students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Social Studies, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certification or eligibility for certification.
  • Experience teaching middle school students or working with adolescents.
  • Strong understanding of ELA and Social Studies content, instructional strategies, and adolescent development.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and classroom‑management skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Must meet Archdiocesan compliance requirements, including Safe Environment training.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high‑quality instruction in English Language Arts and Social Studies aligned with school and Archdiocesan curriculum standards.
  • Create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and active learning.
  • Integrate Catholic values and perspectives into classroom discussions and learning experiences.
  • Develop lessons that incorporate reading comprehension, writing skills, primary sources, and project‑based learning.
  • Assess student progress using a variety of tools and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Maintain accurate records, including lesson plans, grades, and student documentation.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
  • Collaborate with the middle school team on curriculum planning, interdisciplinary projects, and school initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and schoolwide events.
  • Model Catholic values and contribute positively to the spiritual life of the school community.
