About The Position

Convent of the Sacred Heart is New York City's oldest independent school for girls. The Middle School Social Studies teacher will join a highly collaborative, innovative, and experienced faculty. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated interest in middle school education and the ability to relate and communicate effectively and appropriately with middle school female students.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate history major
  • Candidate should be open to STEM collaboration and be comfortable with using technology and various scientific tools to enhance students’ learning
  • Proficiency with current educational technology, especially blended learning platforms and strategies.
  • Knowledge of, appreciation for, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist, anti-bias education, multicultural teaching, and culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Positive team player with a desire to contribute and share your gifts and talents with the students and administration of the school

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in history, social science, or education preferred
  • Previous teaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach 5th and 6th Grade Social Studies. Both courses develop students' understanding of history from multiple perspectives and use primary sources to enhance students' analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Provide academic support for students outside of class time by answering homework questions and consulting with them as needed.
  • Attend department and faculty meetings.
  • Support the students and division by covering homeroom, study halls, lunch duties, and other assignments as needed.
