About The Position

As a Middle School ELA Tutor for Small Group Test Prep at Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students through targeted small group instruction designed to strengthen literacy skills and test readiness. This role focuses on small group ELA instruction using Simply Ed’s structured ELA Test Readiness Materials, helping students build confidence, improve comprehension, and prepare for assessments in a supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Passionate about supporting middle school students’ literacy growth and test readiness.
  • Reliable, professional, and committed to showing up every day.
  • Strong communicators and collaborative team players.
  • Experienced with children (formally or informally) — school experience preferred, but training is provided.
  • Currently pursuing or holding a bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field.
  • Able to adapt to different learning environments and student needs.
  • Cleared (or eligible for clearance) through DOE PETS background check and fingerprinting.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small group ELA test preparation sessions using Simply Ed’s structured curriculum.
  • Provide targeted reading and writing support to Grades 6–8 students.
  • Reinforce literacy skills, vocabulary development, and comprehension strategies.
  • Support student engagement and build academic confidence.
  • Help manage small group routines and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Assist with organizing materials and preparing instructional resources.
  • Monitor student progress and share observations with school staff.
  • Collaborate with educators to meet student learning needs.
  • Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
