About The Position

Kearney Public Schools is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Principal at Horizon Middle School starting the 2026-2027 school year. This position has a 215 day contract. Candidates must hold a valid Administrator's Certificate. Demonstrated successful administrative leadership is preferred. Position is open until filled. QUALIFICATIONS: The administrator will meet all qualifications and behavior standards as set by State of Nebraska authority. In accordance with certification requirements and the performance expectations of the Kearney Public Schools, all administrators shall meet the following employment criteria: Master’s Degree in Education is required. Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Nebraska Department of Education Administrative Certificate with a 7-12 Principal endorsement. Prior Administrative experience in an educational setting preferred. Knowledge of curriculum development, technology, supervision of staff, staff evaluation, discipline policies, school laws, management of staff and students, planning, and community relations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : (Include, but are not limited to) Provides direction for staff and students. Provides leadership by implementing and supervising an effective instructional program. Establishes building goals and objectives, curriculum development, staff in-service and annual budget. Supervises the development of the master schedule; conducts staff evaluations. Monitors and makes recommendations to B&G for improvement and up-keep of facilities and grounds. Projects future educational needs and expectations. Establishes and maintains effective oral and written communication. Plans and provides for personal needs of students and staff. Serves on school-based, community-based, and district-wide committees. Implements building goals and objectives, district policies, staff selection, training and evaluation. Modifies instruction to meet student needs with assistance from appropriate directors and supervisors. Conducts marketing of education programs. Counsels staff, students, and parents. Provides appropriate and safe environment for learning. Serves as a positive school representative when working with the media. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
