Middle School (6th grade) Math Teacher
About The Position
Head-Royce School is seeking an teacher who is culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join our 6th grade team as a Math teacher . We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy to reflect the needs of 21st Century learners. We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals and living our mission. Head-Royce teachers also serve as advisors and club sponsors and participate in the life of the community, which includes overnight trips during the school year. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-bias pedagogy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
- Experience teaching science, and / or math, including knowledge of middle school learners and developmentally appropriate classroom management skills
- Collaborative, flexible colleague with Middle School teaching experience, with an ability to teach the full range of learners from grades 6 through 8.
- Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Demonstrated knowledge of social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or a related field.
- 2-5 years minimum teaching experience.
- Demonstrated desire to teach in the Middle School.
- Ability to participate in an outdoor education trip for 3-4 nights (additional stipend paid)
- Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
- Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice.
- Ability to participate in an outdoor education trip for 3-4 nights (additional stipend paid)
- Ability to provide proof of Covid Vaccination as well as TB clearance
Nice To Haves
- Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in Science, Mathematics, and, or, Education.
- Experience with Illustrative Math
