About The Position

The Laborist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) supports the Labor & Delivery (L&D) team by providing in-house clinical coverage for obstetric patients in collaboration with the laborist physician group. This role focuses on assisting with labor management, evaluating patients in triage, and responding to obstetric concerns to ensure timely, high-quality care. The APP functions as a key member of the obstetric care team, helping maintain continuous coverage and supporting safe, efficient delivery unit operations. SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION: This position is a designated as “Safety Sensitive Position” under Act 593 of the State of Arkansas. An employee who is under the influence of Marijuana constitutes a threat to patients/customers which Conway Regional is responsible for in providing and supporting the delivery health care related services.

Requirements

  • The Advanced Practice Provider must hold current Arkansas licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) with national board certification and prescriptive authority.
  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent graduate-level NP/PA education) from an accredited program is required.
  • Candidates must maintain an active, unencumbered state license and be eligible for or hold DEA registration for controlled substance prescribing.
  • Required: Women’s health experience

  • Preferred: Labor and delivery experience
  • Other education and experience may be substituted for the required minimum job qualifications with approval of the Corporate Director of Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the on-call laborist/OB physician at the start of shift to review unit status and prioritize patient care needs in Labor & Delivery and OB triage.
  • Evaluates obstetric patients in Labor & Delivery, triage, and postpartum settings in collaboration with the attending physician.
  • Obtains obstetric and medical histories and performs appropriate focused examinations to support clinical assessment and plan of care.
  • Assists in the evaluation of maternal and fetal status, including development and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic testing, including laboratory studies and fetal monitoring.
  • Assists with routine obstetric procedures and clinical interventions within scope of practice and established protocols.
  • Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions, including controlled substances as permitted under Arkansas law and collaborative practice agreements.
  • Communicates and collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated, high-quality obstetric care.
  • Documents patient assessments, progress notes, and care provided in the medical record in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Recognizes and communicates changes in maternal or fetal status promptly to the attending physician and escalates concerns as appropriate.
  • Supports patient and family education regarding labor, delivery, postpartum care, and discharge planning.
