About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Mid-Level Fire Protection Engineer to join our growing Ohio Fire Protection Group, based in Cleveland or Columbus, Ohio. This position offers the opportunity to support and lead design efforts on complex and high-profile projects across several markets. The Ohio Fire Protection Group supports a wide range of building types and industries, giving engineers exposure to nearly every aspect of the fire protection profession. Our projects include federal and DoD facilities, cultural centers, airport infrastructure, laboratory and cleanroom, higher-education buildings, historic renovations, and industrial manufacturing sites. This diversity provides exceptional opportunities for technical growth and cross-market experience. The selected candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and architects across the U.S. and will play a key role in delivering technically sound, code-compliant, and innovative fire protection and life safety solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards and the International Building and Fire Codes
  • U.S. citizenship due to the nature of the work
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD
  • Experience designing sprinkler and/or fire alarm systems

Responsibilities

  • Design active fire protection systems, including automatic sprinklers, standpipes, fire pumps, and fire alarm/mass notification systems.
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, narratives, and Basis of Design (BOD) documents using AECOM templates and standards.
  • Develop hydraulic calculations in accordance with NFPA standards, UFC 3-600-01, and project-specific criteria.
  • Support the design of special hazard systems (e.g., clean agent, water mist, foam, explosion control) as applicable.
  • Conduct code reviews in accordance with the IBC, IFC, NFPA (13, 14, 20, 72, 2001, etc.), and UFC standards.
  • Participate in multi-discipline coordination meetings and collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural teams.
  • Review contractor submittals and RFIs, and provide construction-phase support, including field inspections and acceptance testing observation.
