The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program is one of Lockheed Martin’s outstanding programs that prioritizes partnership, integrity, and reliability. The Structures, Propulsion, and Ordnance Engineering team is an organization within the THAAD program responsible for the design and engineering support for the interceptor mechanical hardware. As a Mechanical Engineer you will support the engineering efforts for the primary and secondary missile structures and will collaborate across organizations to help meet safety, schedule, and cost. Scope of responsibility will include: - Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain individuals to foster open communication between customers and the team. The high level of responsibility will provide developmental, growth and mentorship opportunities to help you advance in your career. - Technical management and recommendation for the Structures Canister System, where you will partner to work root cause analysis, engage in vendor support/relationship building, production delivery, and sustainment support. - Use strong collaboration skills that can accommodate our various partners across differing geographic locations. - Collaborate with subcontract management to provide technical support, provide and participate in mentorship opportunities and professional development, all while serving as a technical interface to THAAD management, systems engineering, quality, and our customer counterparts.

Requirements

  • Proven Experience designing mechanical hardware.
  • Proficient with CAD modeling, drafting and release, and working knowledge of ASME Y14.5-1994 including GD&T and tolerance analyses
  • Knowledge of hardware manufacturing processes (machining, heat treatment, surface treatment, assembly, etc)
  • Experience with production support, integration, and/or qualification of hardware components
  • Experience as a hardware owner, such as Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) or Subject Matter Expert: SME, etc
  • Combination of experience in: engineering project management, supplier management, technical evaluations, tracking and development of cost/schedule
  • Exposure to or participation with failure investigations, root cause analysis, and/or corrective action disposition
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a DoD Secret Clearance; US citizenship is required

Nice To Haves

  • Missile and/or aerospace related education or experience
  • Composite design and manufacture experience
  • Additive Manufacturing experience
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Creo, and/or EPDM
  • Model Based Engineering experience (using CAD model as record of authority)
  • Experience with THAAD processes and products
  • Risk and opportunity experience with an understanding of continuous improvement concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated leadership and initiative
