Caterpillar Inc.Nashville, TN

About The Position

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc. When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. As a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer within Caterpillar’s Intelligent Automation and Business Intelligence Center of Excellence (COE), you will play a critical role in enabling enterprise adoption of Microsoft Fabric and modern business intelligence practices. Instead of building isolated analytics solutions, you will support and guide business units across the organization as they modernize their data environments, migrate to Fabric, and mature their BI capabilities. You will provide hands‑on technical expertise, build reusable patterns and accelerators, and partner closely with platform, architecture, and data engineering teams to ensure a scalable, governed, and high-performing analytics ecosystem. This role blends Fabric data engineering, BI semantic modeling, platform stewardship, and enterprise enablement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of combined experience in Business Intelligence, data engineering, or analytics platform support.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric components, including Lakehouse, Data Factory (pipelines, dataflows Gen2), Notebooks, Delta tables, and semantic model development.
  • Strong proficiency with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, dataset optimization, performance tuning, and workspace management.
  • Solid understanding of data engineering concepts, including ingestion patterns, transformation logic, medallion architecture, and SQL.
  • Experience developing or supporting reusable data/BI assets such as templates, pipelines, semantic models, or governance artifacts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across distributed systems, BI tools, and data pipelines.
  • Experience scripting or automating tasks using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or SQL.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with proven success supporting both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience enabling or governing analytics platforms in a Center of Excellence or enterprise technology function.
  • Knowledge of enterprise-scale BI platforms such as Tableau, Cognos, ThoughtSpot, or Business Objects.
  • Familiarity with deployment best practices, Git integration, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps approaches for Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
  • Experience with Azure data services (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Functions, Synapse).
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL/ELT practices.
  • Experience with platform monitoring, capacity planning, gateway management, or BI environment tuning in a large enterprise.
  • Ability to influence and coach cross-functional teams and contribute to enterprise analytics strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Enable enterprise adoption of Microsoft Fabric by providing technical guidance, coaching, and best practices across analytics teams.
  • Develop and maintain reusable assets, including templates, reference architectures, semantic model patterns, data pipelines, and governance documentation that support enterprise-wide modernization.
  • Support teams in designing and optimizing Fabric Lakehouse environments, Data Factory pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, notebooks, and medallion‑style data architectures.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for Microsoft Fabric, Power BI modeling, dataset optimization, DAX best practices, workspace design, and governance policies.
  • Assist business units with complex or strategic analytics use cases, including performance tuning, troubleshooting, and proof‑of-concept development.
  • Partner with central infrastructure, platform engineering, and cybersecurity teams to ensure Fabric, Power BI, and related analytics services remain secure, scalable, reliable, and well-governed.
  • Create monitoring approaches, standards, and operational best practices that uplift data quality, platform health, and BI performance across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with BI, data engineering, and data architecture teams to align enterprise analytics strategy with Caterpillar’s overall digital and data transformation roadmap.
  • Support incident/problem management processes and communicate findings to business and technical stakeholders.
