SALARY: $9,763.00 - $11,892.00 per month, depending on experience For a listing of benefits, please use the following link: Employee Benefits | City of Kent (kentwa.gov) GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Network and Operations Manager, serve as the primary technical resource for Microsoft 365 collaboration and communications services in a government environment, with a focus on Microsoft Teams, Teams Phone, SharePoint Online, and related collaboration workloads. This role is responsible for the engineering, administration, and operational support of these services while working in coordination with designated administrators responsible for Exchange Online, Security, Identity, and other Microsoft 365 service areas. This position is suited for an experienced systems engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft 365 collaboration and voice services who can operate independently, follow established change and security controls, and work effectively in a structured, compliance-focused public-sector setting. Work is performed under minimal direct supervision. While performing the essential duties of the job, the incumbent may be exposed to a variety of individuals with different personalities and different levels of technical expertise, who may be irate or hostile. The incumbent must deal with issues in a professional manner and demonstrate tact, patience and courtesy at all times when servicing departments, city employees and vendors.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field and Experience: Four (4) years of work experience in administration of Microsoft 365 environments in production, 2 years of which is hands-on experience with Microsoft Teams and Teams Phone, including deployment, configuration, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Microsoft 365 Administrator certification (Exam MS-102)-Required
  • Microsoft Teams Administrator Associate certification (Exam MS-700)-Required
  • Completion of position-relevant background check and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check, which includes fingerprinting

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in government or other regulated environments, and experience with GCC or GCC High tenants, is a plus
  • Microsoft Teams Voice Engineer Expert certification (Exam MS-720) or equivalent demonstrated hands-on experience with Teams Phone, Direct Routing, Operator Connect, or similar voice solutions is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary engineer for Microsoft 365 collaboration and communications services, including: Microsoft Teams (governance, policies, meetings, apps, and integrations) Teams Phone (Direct Routing, Operator Connect, call queues, auto attendants, voicemail, voice routing, and emergency calling) SharePoint Online OneDrive for Business
  • Configure, deploy, and support Teams Phone capabilities, including user and number provisioning, policy management, call flow design, and PSTN integrations.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting for Teams and Teams Phone issues, including call quality, audio/video performance, connectivity issues, and service-impacting incidents.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 collaboration and communications services and coordinate with other domain administrators (Exchange, Security, Identity) for tenant-wide configurations and changes.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, procedures, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Respond to and resolve service requests and incidents in accordance with established SLAs and IT service management practices.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance, service upgrades, feature rollouts, and continuous service improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, carriers, and service providers to support integrations, upgrades, migrations, and issue resolution.
  • Support related enterprise systems and infrastructure initiatives as assigned, consistent with the skills and responsibilities of a Systems Engineer in a government IT environment.
  • Follow required change management, documentation, and security procedures to meet government and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively support the vision, mission, values and goals of the department and the City.
