About The Position

Due to continued facility growth and an increased demand for advanced microscopy services, the Campus Microscopy and Imaging Facility (CMIF) is seeking an experienced Microscopy Specialist to support the expansion of its light microscopy program. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality microscopy services through the maintenance and daily operation of assigned microscopes, providing hands‑on training to new and experienced users, and offering imaging support to a diverse research community. The Microscopy Specialist will monitor instrument performance, perform routine maintenance, and contribute to collaborative research efforts by assisting the CMIF Director and senior staff with method development and microscopy‑based projects. The successful candidate is expected to remain current with best practices and emerging technologies in light microscopy, including participation in regional and national conferences and workshops to enhance both individual expertise and CMIF capabilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical or biological science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of relevant experience required.
  • Specialized training in wet laboratory experiments and operating light microscopes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a diverse group of people.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree in physical or biological science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience training and teaching microscope operation preferred.
  • Experience performing and troubleshooting experiments for one or more of the following techniques: live cell fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy, multiphoton microscopy, intravital microscopy, cleared tissue light sheet microscopy, single molecule localization microscopy, stimulated emissions depletion (STED) microscopy.
