About The Position

Microgrid Automation Engineer III This position will be the technical lead and programmer for the integration of switchgear automation to G&W Electric's proprietary, grid-scale 2.4 MW microgrid, providing project management and customer support. As an Automation and Microgrid Engineer III you will: Assist with G&W switchgear automation solution proposals that include written functional description and pricing. Apply advanced product knowledge of relays, programming, and communication in switchgear distribution automation applications. Provide pre and post sales technical support to sales/marketing, production engineering, and customers for customized distribution automation solutions. Project Manage Distribution Automation projects from Quoting stage through Customer site acceptance without assistance from supervisor. Design logic, program relays and controllers, and test systems as required for projects. Develop flexible program templates and software solutions that can be combined with hardware for customizable product packages Manage technical relationship with key DA technology vendors Assist Production Engineering with minor modifications as necessary for specific customer applications. Train and assist customers with installations and commissioning including on-site activities as necessary. Have the ability to function in cross-functional work teams. Make technical presentations to customers, clients, and/or professional peers. Provide technical assistance and training for peers and sales staff. Act as a mentor to new Automation Engineers to ensure they become proficient with LaZer solutions and successfully assimilate into the DA team. Have the ability to perform event analysis for all G&W automation solutions. Work with customers to write and present papers about the G&W automation solution provided to them. Maintain positive client interactions. Keep up to date with industry trends by attending conferences, and training courses. G&W MICROGRID-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as in-house expert in all control systems in the Microgrid. Manage vendor relationships, especially with engineering groups. Manage periodic maintenance and testing of all software systems. Perform upgrades as necessary. Monitor microgrid system functionality. Troubleshoot and correct as needed. Support G&Ws Microgrid Engineer in day-to-day operations as necessary. Supplement all periodic maintenance performed by Microgrid Engineer and act as a backup. Manage the microgrid operational schedule to maximize the return on investment of use cases while ensuring battery is prepared to support and handle highest priority scenarios. Maintain and be responsible for the G&W Customer Solution Center Microgrid control room. Support all microgrid use cases; especially advanced use cases including islanding, reconnection and DERMS integration

Requirements

  • Holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Has 7+ years of progressive experience in Engineering design and/or development preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with peers and internal and external customers.
  • Has strong industrial / utility programming understanding and skills with a strong preference for relay programming.
  • Has training and/or experience in relays and switchgear and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Possesses knowledge of MS Windows, Word, Spreadsheet and project applications is required.
  • Has the ability to travel overnight 25% and on weekends.
