About The Position
Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment. Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices. Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Responsible for testing all customer samples and for special tests that cannot be performed in the test area. Position is responsible to lead and manage the Newport News Shipbuilding Submarine Ship Safety organizaiton. Tranins, qualifies and assigns Submarine Ship Safety Officers and Superintendents to the Submarines under construction and undergoing maintenance at Newport News Shipbuilding.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or the required certification and 6 years of relevant professional/exempt experience.
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- The required certifications must be Lead Test Engineer (LTE), Shift Test Engineer (STE), Ship Safety Officer (SSO).
- Inactivation Test Engineer (ITE) certification, or Shift Refueling Engineer (SRE).
Nice To Haves
- Experience as a qualified Ship Safety Officer.
- Knowledge / experience in Unites States Navy Submarine construction, operation, maintenance, testing, work control and/or naval architecture.
