About The Position

The RoleIdentifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances, removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities. Conducts safe work procedures training courses. Plans, organizes, and manages the Emergency Planning (EP) function within Department O27, responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive shipyard-wide emergency preparedness and response program. Provides leadership and strategic oversight for all facets of emergency planning, ensuring alignment with NAVSEA 8010, CNIC, and NNS Environmental Health & Safety Manual requirements.   Leads the creation, standardization, and periodic review of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and Fire Response Plans (FRPs) for shipboard and facility operations. Oversees the Fire Warden and Evacuation Drill programs, including training, documentation, and performance metrics.   Represents O27 during NAVSEA, CNIC, and internal audits, ensuring compliance with applicable emergency planning standards.   Supervises a technical team of Health & Safety Analysts responsible for plan maintenance, drill coordination, and data tracking. Serves as the shipyard’s subject-matter expert for emergency planning and continuity of operations, ensuring readiness of all departments to respond effectively to emergencies impacting personnel, assets, and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience
  • Master’s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
