Job Summary The MFIP Employment Counselor provides compassionate, comprehensive case management to families participating in the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) through Hennepin County. This role is ideal for someone who is relationship‑driven, organized, and passionate about helping people move toward economic stability and self‑sufficiency using a person-centered, strengths-based approach.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA, ADA and data privacy requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to access and navigate online databases; Workforce One, MAXIS, and MEC2 experience a plus
  • Must have valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services-related field (related experience may substitute for degree)
  • Minimum two years’ experience working with low-income families of diverse backgrounds and cultures

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of approximately 60–70 MFIP‑eligible families
  • Build long‑term, trusting relationships with participants and community partners
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify participant strengths, needs, and goals
  • Collaborate with families to develop individualized plans for stability and self‑sufficiency
  • Use motivational interviewing and coaching techniques to support progress and engagement
  • Coordinate employment placements, workforce training, and supportive services
  • Track participant progress through regular contact and data monitoring
  • Maintain accurate, timely case notes and documentation in online databases
  • Support and help organize on‑site workshops, orientations, and community events
