This Metrologist role is designed to build on your metrology capabilities while providing continued development to enhance your skills for future opportunities and advancement within Lockheed Martin. This position is on Naval Base Kitsap Bangor in Silverdale, WA, working in a Navy Calibration Laboratory in support of the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Program. This position offers shift flexibility, company provided training, with some travel required. In this position, you will: Provide support for Calibration Laboratory technical processes: Provide training and technical guidance; develop training materials; develop local calibration procedures; develop uncertainty budgets/analyses; develop hardware and software proofing packages; create and revise report of calibrations; maintain National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited parameters; and participate in the Intra-Laboratory Comparison Program. Provide support for Calibration Laboratory administrative processes: Perform laboratory standard Out of Tolerance Notification (OTN) analysis and dispositions; conduct review and respond to Quality audits with root cause and corrective actions; draft and/or review Calibration Problem Reports (CPR) and submit to approval authority; review and approve special calibration requests; and support Strategic Systems Programs life cycle support 5-year standards/modernization forecasting for revision or replacement of lab standards. Provide support for development of Calibration Technicians: Submit quarterly associate technician performance reviews; conduct metrology math / suitable substitution exams with associate technicians preparing for advancement; monitor technician training depth and cross-training; and review/revise vendor training requirements. Provide support for external organizations: Monitor and respond to shared metrology resource email inbox; support engineering Trouble Failure Inspection Rejection Reports (TFIRR); support inquiries from customers and Local Government Representatives; review controlled document revisions; represent Calibration Laboratory during SSP, NAVSEA, and other external meetings and events; and lead guided laboratory tours as requested by local SWFPAC management. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics with at least 1 year of metrology work experience; or minimum 5 years of work experience in a Metrology Laboratory with a diversity of disciplines and capabilities such as: pressure, gas detection, force, torque, dimensional, optics, temperature, humidity, microwave, waveform, or electrical standards.
  • Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
  • Proficient using computers and major components of MS Office suite.
  • Good verbal & written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills to engage with a team and/or lead a team.
  • You will need to be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance to support this government contract. No clearance is required to apply. An interim Secret clearance is required prior to start.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific experience within the Metrology areas of Optical/Dimensional and Temperature/Humidity.
  • Experience performing calibrations onboard Naval vessels and familiarity with the associated Navy documents required to perform calibrations in that environment.
  • Familiarity with METCAL, PMEL, or TMDE metrology programs.
  • Ability to develop metrology measurement techniques and procedures.
  • DoD METCAL, PMEL, or TMDE training.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Experience with teaching, mentoring, or coaching.
  • Electronics and microwave calibration experience/training.
  • Experience with Fluke Metcal, National Instruments LabView, SureCal, or other automated calibration programming platforms.
  • Solid understanding of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and experience being assessed to it.
  • Active security clearance.
