Why Work at GCU: Tuition benefits specifically for the adjunct employee 401(k) Employee Perks and Discounts Course: Methods and Strategies for Integrating Social Studies and the Arts Teacher candidates will examine a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students to independently and collaboratively develop a deep understanding of the major concepts and modes of inquiry from the study of social studies. Teacher candidates will build foundational knowledge on promoting elementary students' abilities to critically analyze and make informed decisions that consider multiple perspectives as citizens of a culturally diverse local and global society. Teacher candidates will integrate the performing and visual arts as primary media for communication, creativity, and engagement among elementary students. Additionally, advocacy for students, families, schools, and the community to strengthen the learning environment, promote student success, and demonstrate leadership is explored.

Requirements

  • Masters in Education or Masters in Elementary Education or Masters in Curriculum and Instruction or Masters in Literacy or Masters in Reading AND 2 areas of exceptional expertise.
  • All instructors must have a valid state teacher certification in elementary education AND a minimum of three years of experience as an elementary classroom teacher or elementary instructional specialist or 1-8 team lead or 1-8 department chair or elementary curriculum coach or new teacher mentor of 1-8 teachers AND At least six graduate credits related to elementary social studies.

  • Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or Doctorate in Instructional Leadership or Doctorate in Elementary Education or Doctorate in Learning and Teaching or Doctorate in Teaching Innovation or Doctorate in Literacy or Doctorate in Reading.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance, and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession.
  • Facilitate weekly main discussion forums to engage students in the online classroom.
  • Adhere to weekly grading requirements, deadlines, and timeframes.
  • Respond to students’ questions and emails within the established timeframes.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
