About The Position

As part of our partnership with the University of Iowa, we operate and maintain critical utility infrastructure that serves thousands of students, faculty, and staff. We are looking for a Meters & Controls Supervisor to provide direct supervision to a skilled operations and maintenance team. In this role, you will lead the installation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of utility network fiber systems, network switches, servers, associated software and hardware, revenue metering, instrumentation, controls, and notification systems supporting the delivery of steam, electricity, chilled water, and water across campus. You will oversee maintenance planning, daily team assignments, safety and compliance programs, and documentation, while helping drive continuous improvement and the development of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Automation & Instrumentation, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a similar technical discipline. In lieu of an associate’s degree, a high school diploma or GED is required, along with two (2) or more years of direct experience in industrial automation and controls, or equivalent military technical training
  • Solid knowledge of utility systems, network infrastructure, fiber systems, and control equipment
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting methods, safety precautions for confined spaces, elevated work, and extreme temperature environments
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, utility maps, design drawings, and repair manuals
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to lead, train, and develop a technical team
  • Experience with maintenance management systems and documentation practices
  • This is an on-site position supporting 24/7/365 utility operations. On-call emergency response coverage is required
  • This role requires attendance at a works site on a daily basis
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 10% of the time and with the need for some overnight travel
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record for operating a company vehicle and traveling between site locations
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps), kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting at least 50 lbs; performing repetitive motions; and working in confined spaces and elevated areas
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, fall protection, hard hat, safety shoes, and safety glasses
  • Corrected vision to 20/40 for reading instruments, gauges, and technical documentation and manuals, and the ability to hear alarms and detect changes in equipment noise levels
  • Ability to use computers and standard software applications, maintain accurate records, and follow oral and written instructions

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily work of E&I Technicians responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing utility network, metering, and associated control systems across campus
  • Coordinate work across internal teams and external partners, including engineers, cybersecurity analysts, skilled trades, contractors, and end users, to support safe and reliable system operations
  • Plan jobsite work sequences, safety procedures, material procurement, outage coordination, and restoration activities for both scheduled work and unplanned incidents
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for the team, including scheduling, time-off and attendance tracking, payroll documentation, issue resolution, training, and support with staffing and hiring needs
  • Schedule and participate in on-call emergency response coverage and assist with operational incidents and emergencies on a 24/7/365 basis as needed
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, compliance, documentation, and maintenance practices, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs supported through the CMMS system
  • Provide technical guidance and QA/QC support for capital projects, while maintaining system logs, drawings, and other utility network documentation to support reliability and customer service
