Meter Technician
About The Position
METER TECHNICIAN EDUCATION: Associates Degree or equivalent in electronics or related field preferred. (Substantial experience may be substituted) EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years experience with electrical distribution system and experience in apparatus testing, inspection and installation. JOB FUNCTIONS: Reports directly to the Meter Superintendent to carry out metering, substation, substation and line apparatus functions (design, inventory, inspection, testing, calibration, repair and maintenance). The essential activities of the position include assisting the Meter Superintendent with metering system design and installation, repairing, cleaning, testing, inventorying and dispersing meters as scheduled. Capacitor and capacitor electronic controls installation, repair, maintenance and inspection. Regulator installation, repair, change out and inspection. Instrument transformer installation and removal. Regular substation inspection and maintenance. WORK EVIRONMENT: Work activity is inside and outside but outside activities sometimes cause exposure to various and sometimes extreme weather conditions and other outdoor elements (insects, offensive wildlife, thorny vegetation, pollen, poison ivy, etc.). SKILL NEEDS: Interpersonal, mental and physical abilities needed to carry out these functions within allowed time constraints. The position requires sitting, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying of objects. Must be able to read, interpret and sketch diagrams, carry out tedious testing, design, maintenance and repair operations in various environments to professional standards and in a safe manner.
